One of the signs you’ve met your soulmate is that you can be yourself around them.

In this article we are going to talk about the signs you met your soulmate, that is, your perfect match, and what happens when you meet them.

Every now and then, I come across a couple who seem perfectly matched. It’s not that they do everything together or agree all the time. They don’t.

There’s a balance to the relationship — in space and togetherness, in the way they handle conflict as it comes up, and even in how they divide up relational and household tasks.

They are flawed human beings who wake up every day and choose to love each other. Even when they get it wrong, they try again to get it right.

Some people will call this healthy relationship #relationshipgoals. Others will see this couple and think they’ve found a real-life example of a soulmate connection.

What’s a Soulmate?

A soulmate is a person who is your perfect match. You share a deep emotional connection — often immediately upon meeting them.

You understand and love each other unconditionally. Your vibe attracts theirs and vice versa.

Soulmates are our perfect match. They are someone who is meant to share our lives. They complement rather than complete us.

Soulmates are two complete souls who share a frequency or resonance that encourages full acceptance, love, and security.

The Difference Between a Soulmate and a Twin Flame

Soulmates are often confused with twin flames. Twin flames, however, are our perfect mirror. A twin flame is considered to be the other half of ourselves.

They are everything we love and hate about ourselves, and a twin flame relationship often challenges us.

It has the potential to elevate us if we let it, but it can also easily turn into mutually assured destruction if we don’t confront our shadows and get to work on healing ourselves.

Twin flames are often meant to stay in our lives only as long as it takes us to learn the lesson. Soulmates, on the other hand, are meant to share our lives forever if we appreciate and nurture that connection.

Signs From the Universe You Met Your Soulmate

The Universe offers signs that we’ve met and connected with a soulmate. It’s more than just a sneaking feeling.

In fact, you’ll find some pretty obvious nudges from the Universe that this person is your perfect match.

1. You Are Completely Yourself Around Them

Sometimes, you’ll meet people and know immediately that if you are your most authentic self, they will judge you. These aren’t your people, and while you may not modify your behavior around them, you don’t feel comfortable in their presence either.

When you meet a soulmate, you are immediately your most genuine self with them. The real you, no matter how quirky that version of yourself is, comes out to meet the real them.

You don’t hold anything back or edit yourself because it’s entirely unnecessary. You can talk about anything with them, and the conversation will flow naturally.

2. You Feel Like You’ve Known Them Forever

It can feel like you’ve known each other forever even when you’ve only just begun a conversation. Even when their life experience looks nothing like yours, you still understand how the other person thinks and feels.

It can feel like you are lifelong best friends no matter how short the acquaintance.

3. The Connection is Strong and Undeniable

There’s a magnetic connection you both feel and neither want to resist. You feel a powerful pull toward their soul. It’s often how you find each other.

You share similar values and interests, and you’re naturally drawn together even in a crowd. In fact, you might keep running into each other or keep finding common ground in conversation to build on your initial chemistry.

4. The Timing Aligns

A powerful sign from the Universe that you’ve met your soulmate is that the timing aligns. There is no right person, wrong time. When you meet, the timing is right. There’s no need for games, subterfuge, or secrecy.

You’re able to be together because of the Universe’s perfect timing. You’re also emotionally ready for this connection when you might not have been completely ready before.

5. Your Friends and Family Like Them

Trust me when I say this: your soulmate is a person your close friends and family members will like. They don’t just like their personality.

They like who you are when you’re with them. They can see that you make each other better, and it’s a healthy, happy connection. Everyone can see the connection; it’s not just you.

What Happens When You Meet Your Soulmate

The soulmate connection is powerful. There are shifts that happen when you meet your perfect match.

Everything slides perfectly into place. You’ll even recognize the following characteristics in your soulmate relationship.

1. You Both Know

The soulmate connection goes both ways. You can’t insist someone’s your soulmate when they don’t feel like that’s true.

If you call them your soulmate and they treat you like you’re just a situationship, that person is not your perfect match. When you meet your soulmate, you both know it’s right. You can feel it. You can’t deny it.

2. The Love is Unconditional

A soulmate connection always contains unconditional love. Your soulmate doesn’t think you’re a flawless human being — just a fabulous one. Their love — and yours — is entirely unconditional.

They don’t judge you for screwing it all up sometimes, and you extend them that same understanding, grace, and forgiveness. No matter what they tell you about themselves, it won’t change your feelings for them, and you know the same is true.

3. You Feel Safe

A soulmate connection is safe. It’s secure. You don’t have to worry or wonder about opening up to them or sharing your deepest secrets.

They don’t have to worry that you’ll suddenly sever the connection without explanation. There’s no jealousy or insecurity in this relationship because there’s no need for it.

4. You Challenge Each Other To Be Better

One similarity between soulmates and twin flames is that both challenge us to be better.

While a twin flame connection can challenge us through struggle, you’ll notice that a soulmate challenges us to be better through their unconditional love and support.

You are the other person’s biggest cheerleader, the president of each other’s fan club. You’re the one cheering the loudest for them to succeed and encouraging them at every setback to keep trying.

5. You Can Disagree Respectfully

A soulmate is never someone who would hurt or disrespect you. What’s beautiful about soulmates is that they can disagree but still respect the other person in the process.

While most soulmates are strongly similar in value, temperament, and interests, there are always differences. These differences aren’t seen as insurmountable.

They can even be complementary at times — allowing each a broader, more nuanced perspective of the world.

6. You Don’t Want to Be Apart

One powerful indicator of a soulmate experience is that you don’t want this person to ever leave your life. You don’t need each other to survive.

You know that you’re a complete person on your own. Your soulmate just makes everything better, and you can’t imagine life without them.

This is why soulmates often work so hard on overcoming challenges life throws at them. They know that the connection they feel is rare and precious.

They won’t just throw it away without a good reason.

The Soulmate Connection

If you’re still having doubts that you’ve met your soulmate, you probably haven’t yet. The connection isn’t one you can ignore, and it’s not one you’ll usually question.

With that being said, there are things you should know about this connection.

It Works Even When It Takes Work

Soulmates make it look easy, but every relationship takes work. However, with a soulmate connection, the relationship doesn’t feel forced.

It’s not all work with little reward. There’s an underlying compatibility even when life’s challenges create conflict.

A soulmate connection, like any other, can break down when neglected, mistreated, or taken for granted, but the powerful draw to one another and the joy you find in each other often makes any work you put in feel completely worth it.

It Can End

It is possible for soulmate connections to be severed. None of us are perfect, and our issues can break down relationships.

This is why it’s so important to cultivate self-love, self-worth, an independent identity, and true healing no matter what stage of life you’re in right now. Past trauma and heartache can sabotage future relationships, but only if we let it.

When we neglect to heal ourselves, we can unintentionally drive away or sever a soulmate connection no matter how much it hurts.

You Get More Than One Shot

If you feel like you met your soulmate, but it didn’t work out for some reason, either they weren’t your soulmate, or you’ll get another chance at this connection — not necessarily with the same person.

This is a bit controversial, but many believe that we have more than one perfect match. In fact, we can have many soulmates throughout our lifetimes that come in when we need them.

You might be looking for them in lovers, but you might encounter them as friends.

Can a Soulmate Be a Friend?

Because a soulmate is our perfect match, the connection isn’t always romantic. Oftentimes, you’ll find a soulmate can be your best friend. Some people we meet just completely vibe with us.

Maybe they’ve already met and married the love of their loves, but when we meet them, we have all the aforementioned signs in the friendship.

Too often, we place the highest value on romantic love and discount all the other kinds. Yet, a trusted friend who loves us unconditionally is invaluable.

While you might still long for a romantic soulmate, look around and see if you’ve already met a few platonic ones.

Let it warm your heart to know that the people who get you and love you even at your worst and cheer the loudest when you’re at your best are just as important.

Soulmates — In Summary

Like twin flames, soulmates have the potential to push us to be our best selves. They challenge us, but it’s done completely in love.

Feeling completely seen and accepted allows us the safety to develop into who we are capable of being. Without fear, judgment, criticism, or insecurity, we can thrive and connect to our deepest joy.

The soulmate connection creates the perfect conditions for us to meet our best and most authentic selves — and help our soulmates do the same.

Your soulmate probably isn’t the “one who got away”.

You’ll meet them at the right time, but it’s so important that you take the time to heal yourself and cultivate a life that you love.

Don’t wait until you find your soulmate to live your best life. You might find that living your best life is exactly what you need for the timing to align.
